Why Should I Get a CCW Permit?
“Do something against the law and you can end up arrested and in prison. Do something seriously wrong while trying to defend yourself from a violent criminal attack and you can end up dead.”
With the coming changes in Arizona law, many people are asking themselves “Why should I get an Arizona CCW permit? The law no longer requires that I have one to carry concealed.”
There are a few things to consider before citizens should avail themselves of this new privilege. First, while a permit is no longer required, anyone carrying a concealed firearm is responsible for knowing ALL the laws relating to where they can legally carry and where they cannot.
Secondly, anyone carrying a concealed firearm is also responsible for understanding when they are permitted to use either the threat of lethal force or actually use lethal force to defend their own life or the life of a loved one.
One of the benefits of taking an Arizona CCW course is that you will learn where you can legally carry and when you can legally use deadly force in self-defense.
Many people that might consider carrying a concealed firearm might also need to actually learn to use their firearm in a combat situation.
It is one thing to go to the range and practice shooting in a controlled environment. It is a completely different situation when you are in a gunfight with someone that is trying to rob you, attack you or kill you.
You will NOT rise to the occasion. You will default to your lowest level of skill under stress.
Without knowledge of the law and the proper training in how to use their firearm, people carrying a concealed weapon place themselves at substantial risk of criminal prosecution or personal injury.
Do something against the law and you can end up arrested and in prison. Do something seriously wrong while trying to defend yourself from a violent criminal attack and you can end up dead.
The question that I ask my students in every class is “How much is your freedom or your life worth? Do you think that it is worth investing in some training so that you have a fighting chance of staying out of jail or staying alive in the event of a violent attack?”
You should ask yourself that same question before you decide to put that gun in your pocket…and be honest with yourself about your knowledge of the law and skill with a firearm. Remember, you have everything to gain by getting more training and everything to lose if you don’t…
